FIRST 5O YEARS OF THE COLLEGE OF SAINT BENEDICT (CSB)
This photo taken from the water tower on St. Benedict's campus shows that the title of Sister Mariella Gable's presentation on the 50th anniversary of the college, "In league with the Future" was indeed an appropriate one. The Benedicta Arts Center (upper-center and extreme right) is no longer isolated in the cornfields as it was in the early 1960s. In fact, the photo shows that construction for further expansion of the BAC for theater and dance was in progress in 2005.
Legend: - "(center and lower right) three large residence halls, Lottie, Margretta and Brian "" - "(central) the Clemens Library - "(upper-center) the Science Hall, Haehn Student Center, Claire Lynch Hall - "(upper center) more residence areas, the Luetmer Hall and East Apartments - "(upper-center to the left) Mary Hall, residence wings and new Commons entrance - "(lower-left) cluster of apartments known as the West Apartments."
CONCLUSION: The following affirmation from the COLLEGE OF SAINT BENEDICT to the SISTERS OF SAINT BENEDICT for the feast of St. Benedict in 2002 expresses the bond of relationship between the college and monastery:
"You've stayed in the conversation with us; You've taken the long view of the common good; You've taught us that the love of learning " lasts a lifetime; For these and countless personal and institutional " reasons, we thank you. Our hearts, our minds and our lives " will never be the same.
