FIRST 5O YEARS OF THE COLLEGE OF SAINT BENEDICT (CSB)
The first visible signs of the magnitude of this venture rose 160 feet in the middle of a cornfield. This high structure, the stage house, was tall enough for the movable wall between the auditorium and forum stages to be lifted up so that props could be prepared on one stage and be quickly exchanged for the out-going scene on the other stage. The raised stage-wall also allowed for the combination of the two stages to function as one for large audiences, such as for graduation exercises.
The front section of the auditorium stage is also movable to three levels: stage-level to make the stage large enough for any ballet, seating-level to extend the capacity by 250, lower level to serve as the orchestra pit. ________________ The contexts of this series relating to the BAC are based on an interview with Sister Johanna Becker, who was dean of the college during the planning and early construction phases.
