SBM.15a Sister Claire Lynch, dean 1932-1941 (turning point for the college)
Description
FIRST 5O YEARS OF THE COLLEGE OF SAINT BENEDICT (CSB) Sister Claire Lynch's Administration -- Turning Point for CSB
Sister Claire Lynch's administration (1932-41) can be described as brilliant. She was a beautiful, striking and gifted woman - definitely a leader, not a status-seeker. We were in the Great Depression; the college had never really gotten off the ground. A hundred things needed to be done for the college and she took hold of them all with stunning vigor. I asked her how she was able in the very first year of her administration to get the college accredited by the North Central Association.""By telling the truth" she answered. She saw our staggering needs, analyzed them and made concrete and effective plans to cope with every one of them - and she persuaded the North Central people that she meant business. In 1932 the college received temporary accreditation and, two years later, final accreditation. Sister Claire's administration confirmed all the hopes the North Central Association placed in St. Benedict's."(Gable, OSB)
