Seniors To Get Diplomas On Trinity Sunday
Students Cast Light Vote
By Bill Hayden According to a recent Record poll, 83% of the students think there is a need for the student Council, and yet only 266 students (33 %) considered that need important enough to vote in the spring elections. It seems most of those who complained about this year's so-called "do nothing" Council and who laid down the long list of prerequisites for a Council member as found in that same Record, could not find time to check their ballots.
The common gripe that the ballot was rather barren of candidates had some basis: four candidates were uncontested. These were John Rielly, senior representative, Dick Coy, junior representative, Mike Ruddy, former frosh rep., as sophomore representative, and Charles Eckroth, NSA junior delegate.
James Collison was elected NSA senior delegate with 194 of the 259 votes cast for that position, and Gerald Fix took over the position of NFCCS senior delegate.
In the only really contested race, for the three representatives at-large, Mike Donahue, this year's junior representative, broke away from a field of seven with 183 votes. Leroy Lilly and Richard Heinzkill just edged ahead of the other four candidates.

Marcel L Breuer Selected To Prepare Future Building Plans
#The noted architect Mr. Marcel L. Breuer of New York City has
been selected by the Community to prepare a comprehensive plan and report on the campus building problems.
Earlier in the spring twelve outstanding architects of America and Europe were contacted and all responded favorably. Five of them—Richard Neutra, Walter Gropius, Barry Byrne, Joseph Murphy and Breuer—visited the campus-After his acceptance Breuer (Broy-er) wrote: "I am quite moved and stimulated by the Community's confidence in asking me to be the architect. It is an unusual and important task and I am starting work in full realization of this." In coming to its decision the community was greatly influenced by Breuer's quiet unassuming way, his sincerity, his simplicity and his humility, as well as by his fame and the skill shown in his other plannings.
Breuer was born at Pecs, Hungary, in 1902. His early architectural training was taken at the Bauhaus, where he studied
under Walter Gropius, one of the fathers of modern architecture. He was Gropius's partner from 1937-41. Many buildings in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, England, and the United States have been designed by Breuer.
At present he has just submitted preliminary plans for the UNESCO Building to be built in Paris. His latest work in the U.S. is a library at Grosse Point, Michigan.
When Breuer visited the campus in April he indicated his dislike of "Hollywood modern" and mere functionalism in design. "Modern work,'' he said, ' 'has now progressed into a second stage which leaves all such tricks behind. Mere functionalism is not enough." He was not opposed to functionalism, but wanted more depth.
Recent books written by Breuer are Art in Our Time, The Modern House, and The Design of Modern Interiors. In 1925 he was credited with inventing tubular steel furniture and several years later he was cited for advancing the use of aluminum in home furnishings and interiors.
