Students Elect McAllister Delegate To Spiritual Leadership Convention
Meeting Under Mission Crusade Auspices Has Gratifying Results
At a meeting in the Auditorium on Sunday, May 25, the student body unanimously elected John McAllister as the delegate of St. John's University to the National Students' Spiritual Leadership convention to be held in Chicago from June 20 to 22. In making their choice the students pointed out the aptitude of Mr. McAllister and the zealous interest he has shown in all the activities at St. John's.
In hearty response to the acclamation of the students Mr. McAllister thanked them for the confidence placed in him and for the privilege offered him. He expressed, moreover, his determination to co-operate with the chaplain and faculty delegate, Father Celestine, in working at the convention for the glory of God, the strengthening and spread of the Faith, and for the honor of St. John's.
In order to finance the delegate to the Student Convention, the St. John's Branch of the National Catholic Students' Mission Crusade presented a benefit movie, The Iron Ma?k, on Friday evening, May 23.
This marked the completion of a successful year for the Mission Crusade, and well has the crusade acquainted the students with missionary activity, both home and foreign. The proceeds of the memorable pre-Christmas bazaar and the bi-weekly self-denial contributions of the students has enabled the crusade, underthe Rev. Chaplain's direction, to send more than SGOO to various mission centers; and now, to bring a fitting climax to the year's work, the crusade has secured the funds for the students' own representative to the National Catholic Students' Spiritual Leadership convention at Chicago.____________
