UNIVERSITY ORCHESTRA In the evening of the feast of the Immaculate CONCERT Conception, December 8, the St. John's Uni-
versity Orchestra made their initial appearance of the season before an appreciative audience in the local Auditorium. The program was opened with the popular ' U. S. Field Artillery March/ by Sousa. Upon this followed the dainty ' Pastel Minuet Vif by Paradis, the delightfully strange ' Overture Comique ' by Keler-Bela, and Moszkowski's quaint ' Spanish Dance 2.' After the brief intermission Burgmein's splendid * Rosaura, from "Carnaval Venetien" ' was rendered; then the Overture ' Light Cavalry ' by Suppe, Gilder's expressive ' Norwegian Slumber Song,' and the classical march ' Persian ' by Strauss.
Although the program was somewhat brief, it was characterized by unusual finish in rendition which left an impression that the program had been ' just right.' Under the able direction of Father Innocent the musicians performed splendidly and gave promise that this season's programs will merit the continued high regard that is held by all who have learned to appreciate the work of the University Orchestra.
