Sister Emmanuel Renner, O.S.B., has been named president of the College of Saint Benedict. Her selection was made at a meeting of the college Board of Trustees Friday, April 27.
Sister Emmanuel will assume the presidency of the college on July 1. She succeeds Dr. Beverly W . Miller, who has been president for the past five years (see back cover).
Sister Emmanuel, a graduate of the College of Saint Benedict, has been serving as Director of Planning and Program Development for the college. Her experience includes several years as Professor of History, Chairperson of the History Department, Chairperson of the Integrated Studies Department, and Dean of the Continuing Education division of the college.
Among her degrees are an M.A. in history from the University of Minnesota and a Ph.D. in history and political science from Catholic University. She has also studied at Fordham University, New York City, Tunghai University in Taiwan, Hamline University,

A native of Walker, Minnesota, Sister Emmanuel graduated from St. James Academy, Grand Forks, North Dakota, before enrolling at the College of Saint Benedict. She taught at Memorial High School, Pierz, Minnesota, before returning to the College of Saint Benedict to begin teaching assignments.
Sister Emmanuel has been a member of Minnesota Women in Higher Education and serves as liaison between the college and the Planning Commission of St. Joseph, Minnesota. She has participated in other organizations associated with the College of Saint Benedict and outside the college. In addition, she has had several articles published and is sought as a lecturer.
The new president will be the first member of the Sisters of the Order of Saint Benedict to head the college since the retirement of Sister Mary Grell in 1968. From 1968 to 1974, Dr. Stanley Idzerda was president.
